Arts and Social Media Merged

 By Lindsey M. Musch

Anyone and everyone can evolve and benefit from social media.  From the corporate world to the art world, social media should be available and used by many.  Artists, especially in this economy, should take advantage of what is now socially expected and that is social media.
With social media artists can get their name and their work out there for the world to see while the entire time sitting in their own space that make them comfortable and creative. Artists can also share and view others work and learn and grow as both a person and an artist.
Besides the fact that one can only better themselves by viewing others work to gain inspiration and confidence, one can also better themselves financially.  How many times have you heard the phrase 'struggling artist'?  Well with the help of social media every artist can find an audience that can be reached by their work and will even put a monetary value on it.
I have stumbled across this website which had an article entitled “5 Reasons Why Artists Need Social Media & Eye Opening Stats to Back It Up!”  This article sums up the reasons why artists need social media, all of which I found very true and interesting.
Which are as followed:
  1. Keep Your Finger on the Pulse
  2. Build Your Brand
  3. Marketing
  4. Networking
  5. You Don’t Want to be a Dinosaur
So to all you artists out there who think that social media is not for you, think again!  It could be the best tool you use to become the best artist you can be.  Social media is a great way to get your name out there, to visit other artists and to gain knowledge and to become inspired.
What do you believe is the number one reason artists should use social media?  Do you think that artists should engage with social media or is it a waste of time?
And for those artists who think that social media as a whole is a waste of time and is just a fad, take a look at this video entitled Social Media Revolution 2 to gain another perspective.
